Putting it in

  1. Open Little Montreal in the OSM editor

    You will need an OpenStreetMap account — free, and an email address is all it takes. The editor cannot be handed a tag through a link, so add it yourself: scroll the left-hand panel to Add field, or open All tags and enter the pair above.

  2. If you use JOSM with remote control switched on, this link loads the venue with start_date already filled in — replace YYYY and review before you upload.

Which date? The one the business opened its doors, not the one the building went up. Those get confused constantly, and a 19th-century date on a bar that opened in 2019 is the commonest error in this tag.

If you only know roughly: write the year, 1987. Do not pad a month out to 1987-05-01 to look precise — that reads as the first of May and this site will show it as one. 1987-05 is the honest form for a month.
